Overview
Teej refers to the monsoon festival. It decorates
the arrival of clouds and rain, greenery and birds and bounty of nature with
social activity, rituals and customs. It is the commemoration of the union of
Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva.
"Teej" is
the "third" day after the Amavasya and the third day after the Purnima.
Women usually dance, sing, get together with
friends and tell stories, dress up with henna-coloured hands and
feet, wear red, green or yellow clothes, share festive foods and bangles
complete the picture.
